ALandA – Ancient Landscapes of Anatolia in the Bronze Age

The ALandA project aims at reconstructing the history of the landscape of Central Anatolia between the 18th and the 13th centuries BCE, a crucial period of transition from the territorial fragmentation of the Anatolian principalities to the emergence and consolidation of the powerful Hittite Kingdom.

The project is the result of the collaboration between the Universities of Milan and Pisa and CNR-ISPC and brings together an interdisciplinary team of archaeologists and assyriologists. The goal is to merge data from Assyrian and Hittite sources with the analysis of material culture, settlement patterns and models of exploitation of the territory, to investigate the changes of the anthropic landscape of second millennium Central Anatolia.

The focus is on the modern provinces of Kayeri and Yozgat, where the two key sites of Kültepe and Uşaklı Höyük are actually under excavation by the Universities of Milan and Pisa.
