As part of the Phoenician and Punic Archaeology course within the Ancient Civilizations for the Contemporary World program, we are pleased to host a lecture by Dr. Francisco Núñez (University of Warsaw), director of the excavation project on the acropolis of Tyre.
The event will provide an opportunity to present and discuss the most recent archaeological discoveries from ongoing investigations at the site of Tyre, one of the major cities of the Phoenician coast. Known for its central role in trade and exchange across the ancient Mediterranean, Tyre represents a key case study for exploring the economic, cultural, and political dynamics that shaped the Levant and the wider Mediterranean basin during the first millennium BCE.
Drawing on the latest data from excavations on the acropolis, the lecture will highlight new evidence for understanding the city’s urban organization, its transformations over time, and its role within Mediterranean interaction networks. The talk will also contribute to broader debates on archaeological methodologies and the interpretation of Phoenician urban contexts.
The event is open to students, scholars, and anyone interested in the cultures of the ancient Near East and the historical dynamics of the Mediterranean.
